People today are more aware of the dangers of using toxic chemicals. Pests are daily occurrences in every household and it's a challenge to keep them away. Here are a few natural solutions to keep pests at bay using products that are readily available in your cupboard or the local supermarket.
1. Eucalyptus Oil

Just a few drops of this essential oil is a natural pesticide for flies, bees, and wasps. Eucalyptus and peppermint oil works well to keep rodents away from your home, too.
2. Citrus Oil with Cayenne Pepper

Mixing a few drops of citrus essential oil with a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup of warm water works as a great pesticide for ants. This mixture sprayed around the garden will keep cats away as well.

3. Soap, Orange Oil and Water

Combine 3 tablespoons of liquid Castile soap with an ounce of orange essential oil to a gallon of water. This works very well against slugs while it may be sprayed directly on ants and roaches to eliminate them.
4. Salt

Salt can be used to deter ants, kill slugs, and snails. Use 2 tablespoons of Himalayan salt combined with a gallon of warm water to treat plants infested with spider mites.

5. Thai Lemongrass (Citronella)

To use as topical insect repellent, break a stalk off and peel the outer leaves to find the stem which looks like a scallion. Loosen the stem between your fingers and rub it between your palms to create a pulp. Use this pulp on exposed skin. Planting this in your garden can repel mosquitos, too.
6. Orange Peels and Coffee Grounds

Scatter orange peel and coffee grounds around to prevent cats from invading your garden or garage area. The scent of citrus deters them from coming near your home.

7. Garlic, Chili and Soap

This is a very potent brew that may keep nearly all pests away. Combine 10 garlic cloves, 6 small chili peppers (or a tablespoon of hot chili powder), a tablespoon of vegetable oil, 3 squirts of liquid detergent, and 7 cups water. Spray liberally in open areas, especially after it rains.
