Upon the recommendation of a few friends whose sophisticated palates I trust, I trooped to Manila and sought Tao Yuan. Not an easy search, as it is actually not ON the corner but a building off from the corner of Mabini. Clue, once you hit the corner of Mabini and Malvar and see the Family KTV, make a right. You wont miss the big bold lights, park at the near empty lot. You can tell it has earned its rep because the place is packed with members of the Chin empire - they would know good Chinese. I believe it is a franchise from Hongkong, and the managers who are the only ones deputized to take orders barely speak tagalog. (Try our special "diss"). They've got the exotic stuff: lobsters and other delicious "monsters" from the deep. Those are for special occasions because they're not cheap. But the peking duck, 2 ways, was perfect: crispy, fat, and the wrapper is well-made as it doesnt easily tear. The Fujian rice is yummy, kinda like a soupy risotto. It is already a dish in itself. Free dessert: melon sago - cleans the palate! They've got Singapore specials, for my next visit.
